Dear Members and Friends –

 

We hope you had a safe and happy Independence Day. Like many of you, yes, I have been receiving the complaints about the detritus left over from exploded and unexploded fireworks in our parks, playgrounds, shopping area parking lots,…. If folks would just clean-up after themselves…. Okay, whine time is over. On to the updates:

 

WSCPA hosted a table at the Washington Food Industry Association 2026 WFIA Connect: Vendor-2-Retailer event https://wafood.org/connect-home, June 10th at Tulalip Casino. It was a great opportunity to connect with the retailers and vendors to let them know what resources we as Crime Prevention, Community Engagement, and Loss Prevention Specialists from around the state can offer them.

 

I want to thank the Washinton State Department of Agriculture for the opportunity to provide personal safety, safety in the field, and conflict de-escalation training for their staff, virtually and in person in Lacey and Yakima. We’ve received great feedback from attendees and use their input to adjust what we teach to future audiences. If you know of entities that need/want training, and you’d like some assistance in delivering or conducting said training, remember we are a resource for you.

 

Our next CPTED certification training is scheduled for August 11-13, 2026, in Vancouver, WA, hosted by the Vancouver Police Department. While there is still space available for this training, we suggest you lock in your spot now before the class is filled. Click here for more information about this training and how to register.

 

Ada is an enrolled member of the Muckleshoot Tribe and has served in many roles, including as Emergency Management Director, Elder and Family Advocate, Family Consolation Specialist, and a Crisis Chaplain. Ada has stressed “partnership” in our conversations. I look forward to her energy on our Board and partnering with her to better serve our Tribal Nation partners.

 

With Ada’s election to our Board, we have one last Director spot to fill. This is for our Region 9 Director. Region 9 includes Adams, Asotin, Benton, Columbia, Franklin, Garfield, Walla Walla and Whitman counties. If anyone is interested in the opportunity to make meaningful change while supporting our board, please email: info@wscpa.net

 

Our next feature in the ongoing Crime Prevention Thursday series is scheduled for July 16, 2026 at 11:00am. Capt. Dave Richards, the WASPC Representative to our Board, will provide an update on the WASPC priorities and our efforts to reach our goal of supporting Washington. Additionally, with Night Out Against Crime rapidly approaching, we’ll do a membership check-in to have a conversation of what you all are planning in your local areas. To register for this and future Crime Prevention Thursday sessions, please register here.

 

We look forward to welcoming you all to the 48th annual conference at the Icicle Village Resort in Leavenworth Washington, October 26-28, 2026. This year, we have reached out far and wide to bring you a phenomenal line-up of presenters. In addition to having Det.
