June 2026

Dear Members and Friends –

Yes, it’s June, and we can’t believe it either!  What a great year so far.  Just like many of you, we have a lot going on and are excited to let you know about it!

Welcome our new Region 6 Director, Sgt. Nathan Hahn, representing Chelan, Douglas, Ferry and Okanogan Counties.

Many of you already know Sgt. Nate Hahn, currently with the Wenatchee Police Department, who served as our representative with the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC). Sgt. Hahn will officially retire on July 1 of this year.

Although retiring from law enforcement, Sgt. Hahn wanted to continue serving our association and is a perfect fit for the Region 6 Director position, as he resides in Chelan County. We want to congratulate him on his retirement and are grateful for his continued commitment to our association and his willingness to remain involved in this important work.

Welcome our new Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) representative, Captain Dave Richards of Spokane Police Department.

Capt. Richards brings extensive law enforcement experience with the Spokane Police Department and is actively involved in several community boards and initiatives focused on crime prevention and public awareness. We look forward to partnering with him in his role as our representative with WASPC and value the knowledge, leadership, and experience he brings to the association.

Crime Prevention Thursdays – High Street CPTED Pilot Area Project

Our next feature in the ongoing Crime Prevention Thursday series is scheduled for June 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.  We are excited to welcome Megan Grable, an Urban Planner with Fort Wayne, Indiana’s Department of Neighborhoods, to speak on their High Street CPTED Pilot Area Project.

The High Street CPTED Pilot Project in Fort Wayne, Indiana is an award-winning, evidence-based initiative that demonstrates not only the impact of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), but how it can be implemented as a replicable model at the corridor and neighborhood level. Designed from inception using CPTED principles, the project transformed one of the city’s highest-crime streets into an area now experiencing its lowest crime rate in over 40 years.

This session provides a comprehensive, practitioner-focused walkthrough of the project, including its phased implementation, community engagement strategy, integration of infrastructure improvements with neighborhood activation, and academic partnership to produce evaluation, highlighting the specific decisions, partnerships, and strategies that made replication possible.
